At Home Employment and Jobs |
| Find out what you need to know about at home employment and at home jobs |
A lot of people think that at home employment and at home jobs are the wave of the future. Telecommuting eliminates the need for on-site management and the need to pay rent and bills on office space, so more and more businesses are allowing their employees to work from home. In fact, companies who don't allow their employees to telecommute are starting to become dinosaur-like in their stubborn insistence that an employee must be in the office and supervised in order to be productive. At Home Jobs - Pro's and Con's for Companies and EmployeesAt home jobs save companies money, period. Office space and office equipment cost money. Not only does a company have to either buy or rent an office, but they also have to pay utilities and insurance on an office. An on-site office manager is normally a requirement in order to make sure that things run smoothly there at the office. This person is one additional salary to add to the list. Working at the office and commuting to work also incurs additional costs on the employee, not just the employer. I once calculated the costs incurred from my hour-long daily commute (an hour each way), the clothing I needed to work from the office, and the lunches that I ate out just from being away from the house. My hourly wage after those deductions was pitiful, not much more than minimum wage. Productivity is usually improved by at home employment plans also. One of the biggest distractions anyone faces in an office-place is the constant flirting and office romances that go on. If you don't think that this interferes with working productivity, then you've probably never been involved in an office romance. That's not the only distraction. There are constant interruptions from people in an office wanting to know if you want to go have lunch, or if you want to have lunch delivered, or if you want to get a coke from the vending machine. People love to talk about what happened during last night's ballgame too. All of this detracts from productivity. Working at home and telecommuting are not panaceas however. There are drawbacks. One major drawback to working from home is the difficulty involved in separating work life from family life. Not a day goes by that my wife, who also works at home, doesn't interrupt me while I'm in the middle of writing an article or an email. These little interruptions can add up and detract from your productivity too. If you have kids running around, you have to learn how to set boundaries with them also. At Home Employment - A Look at the FutureAs the future continues to roll forward, at home employment and at home jobs are going to continue to grow, and people are going to learn to deal with their new work dynamic. I definitely think that the pro's outweigh the con's in the work at home vs. work at the office formula. See also:
